Windows + Workshops

The house was boarded up for more than twenty years. During the course of our restoration work, we discovered that the front windows still have their original sashes, along with some of the original glass. Unfortunately, several of the other windows did not fare quite as well and will need substantial repair work to restore them.

This fall, we are partnering with Riverbend Renewal to host a Historic Window Repair Workshop at the house. Eric LaVelle, a talented restoration carpenter who has been working with us on the Bruch-Guertler House, will lead the workshop on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

During the workshop, Eric will cover the components of a traditional double-hung window, how to remove the sashes, replace sash cords, make wood repairs, remove old paint and glazing, and re-glaze the glass. The workshop will focus on practical techniques homeowners can use to maintain and repair their own historic wood windows—helping preserve them for another century.
